Rayn is a one-woman psychedelic electro-opera about a muse that becomes trapped in the “real” world and becomes a sex worker to support herself financially as she attempts to navigate her newfound existence as a human being. It’s a little bit sexy, a little bit trippy, and incredibly feminist, sex positive, and pro sex workers’ rights. Audience members – come prepared to dance (and maybe even be danced on)!

Synopsis: The goal of Rayn is to draw a parallel between sex workers and muses. It follows the story of Rayn, a muse that comes to a struggling male musician in his time of desperation. His muse helps to lift him out of his depression and begins to awaken him to her magical world where anything is possible. But as he begins to become attached to his creation (and desire her sexually), he pulls her into his realm – this physical, earthly realm – where she struggles to survive. In order to support herself while she continues to work with him on his creative projects, she becomes an exotic dancer and eventually a full service escort, drawn deeper and deeper into a world of vices as her creator becomes increasingly disenchanted with her “bad” behavior. As the story progresses, Rayn eventually gravitates away from her creator, begins working on her own artistic projects, finds her independence as a human woman, and concludes that the things human differentiate as “bad” and “good” are really one in the same.

Paris Syndrome
