If movement and drums aren't your thing, don't come to a show like this- but since I love them, I am grateful to have seen it. Even my friend, who never sees this stuff, liked it. It reminded me of ancient, primal theatre- I feel that is where the plot may even have started, but as for plot, I think everyone may have a different interpretation of that. Mine had it go from that ancient place and wend its way up through humanity, as we try to evolve. I was also trying to interpret the costumes within the scope of this- they did a good job, I think, creating something that needn't be attached to any current culture, which was an issue on my mind- how can we celebrate cultures without disrespecting them? The Fringe is the perfect time to experiment and bring ground-breaking works to the public, and Zombie Joe's Underground Theatre Group has done a fine job of introducing us to their company. Featuring an incredible cadre of perfomers, Nightmaricomio delivers where so many others have failed - it is a breath of fresh air and a spectacle to behold. Reviewed by Pauline Adamek ***This review first appeared on www.StageRaw.com*** A guy named Kevin (musician Kevin Van Cott) pounds away at a drum kit while a writhing ball of cast members moan and gyrate manically like a nest of vipers. And that’s pretty much it for an excruciating 35 minutes that feels like an eternity. "Nightmaricomio" is a lazy mash-up of two previous ZJU shows, "Manicomio" and "Nightmares." As we enter a small theater with all its seats removed, we see the cast in action. The men are clad in shredded zombie-like rags while the women are wearing tight, stripy aerobics wear and bras.
