What I liked

Masc4Masc is everything it should be, nothing more, nothing less. It is a perfect example of uncensored, non-commercial, raw, independent, self-produced theatre offering opportunities for playwrights and actors to exercise their craft, in bare bones performances, accessible to the masses. That it does.

Masc4Masc is absurdist theater taking place in a niche world of modern Gay Men’s online dating. The conventional quest for “meaning and purpose” is played-out in the lead character Richard, artfully performed by Robert Shields whose authentic anxieties are comforted by his flighty, sometimes irrational, rapid-fire, flamboyant roommate William, performed by the playwright Dylan Wallace.

Kevin Carranza brings to life, Mimi, a humorous controlling mixed-gendered outrageous persona, performed smartly in a multi-dimensional carefree affected manor.

Jennifer Johnson and Jeffrey Fargo display their expertise in supporting roles, effectively fulfilling the two secondary parts. Jeffrey Fargo’s Jer-Bear offers an opportunity for him to effectually portray his comedic talents, and Jennifer Johnson as Pamela, brings an articulate, wonderfully self-assertive female energy to the piece.

Director Bob Telford has artfully guided his cast, adapting skillfully to the Fringe Festival limitations, and finding more “performance” out of these experienced actors than the written script.

What I didn't like

My overall impression

Masc4Masc isn’t pure gay fluff. In true theater of the absurd fashion, the play offers unexpected, sometimes shocking surprises. There is easy to discover social commentary, criticism, and gay dating turmoil laced in this fast-paced 45 minute COMEDY, that is sure to find a perfect match.
