Very solid work everywhere. This is a main stage ensemble play at the Fringe! I really liked the history of the play, the work of the actors, and became more and more engrossed in the characters' conflicts. The play left me thinking about race and diversity in new ways, stepping outside conventional understanding, which I loved.... full review

What a great story! The fact that this is based on actual events really gets you going. Robinson has put together a very solid script that gives all the actors a lot to work with in building their characters. The acting is solid in this piece! Each one of the people on stage brings such depth to their characters that you really do sit in and listen. I would have loved to know a bit more about Fletcher as he is a little disconnected until we reach the third act, but other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed this show!!... full review

A behind the scenes docudrama that brings the unpopular story of negro league baseball business to focus. Matthew Robinson, with this offering, demonstrates his level of commitment to the importance of dramaturgy and command of naturalistic dialogue. The play takes time to expose the fallacies and correct some of the common "knowledge" that we have about the negro leagues and the first African-American MLB player. It's informative, encapsulating, and intrepid. The script is also clever to show a very human and empathetic point of internal conflict within the antagonist early on so that we, as an audience, are a bit morally conflicted with the rest of the choices that he makes in order to achieve his personal goals. Certainly the most well-de... full review

Recommended. Matthew Robinson’s script is thick, but his actors tackle it beautifully, giving us a taste of segregated American baseball before everything changed.... full review

Matthew truly knows how to use the stage to his advantage. His use of the space and lighting really was gorgeous. The actors, in particular Asia are truly engaging and the spirited performances ring out. The story, though period, really speaks to even todays current appropriation or take over of minority culture/entrepreneurship. Some of the dialogue was quite striking which I adored.... full review

The play does a great job illuminating the meteoric rise and fall of the negro baseball league from the perspective of the business men and women who made it happen. ... full review
