The High Captain feels not unlike a blend of Waiting for Godot and Gilligan's Island. And maybe a fairly political version of Alice in Wonderland. Maybe. Actually there's also more than a dash of Monty Python as well. The survivors of a tanker ship crashing onto a desert island somewhere in the Caribbean try to live out their lives. Not easy under the best of circumstances it is all made better and worse by the fact enough barrels of gas that send people high as a kite survived the crash to...well, keep everyone high as a kite. The result is a surreal comedy with more than a few piercing bits of commentary about our own lives and society. In fact, as tensions rise and lead to a bizarre election process the world of this island becomes... full review

What a fun, funny, yet poignant look politics. With plenty of laugh out loud moments and thought provoking lines of dialogue- high captain is a must see at this year's fringe! I highly recommend. ... full review

This is one of my favorites of Fringe. It's sooooo bizarre but in a truly delightful way. Interesting script and director Eric Cire and his merry band of twisted actors bring it to life with huffing gusto. In between laughs, you start to realize just how much this mirrors the insanity of today and somehow, that makes the ride even better!... full review

Such a fun show! Really smart political satire with lots of subtle, sharp commentary (as well as plenty of bold and well-done moments). You could tell everyone was super engaged and committed to the show, which made it easy to feel the same way as an audience member!... full review

I loved the political humor and the cast. Jude Evans and Heather Lynn shine as two washed out/stoned political candidates fighting it out amongst a desolate desert island covered in "Saaaaand." Excellent show! Donald Trump should be forced to watch "The High Captain," and completely sober- the serious monologues about racism and sexism in America were some of the show's best moments (in between laughs). ... full review

This is a funny and absurd play. The brain damaged ruffians marooned on the island really go all in with their performances. I appreciated the physicality of the humor and the way that characters were developed rather quickly. Simply stated the personalities “popped.” Jude Evans as megalomaniacal Thon and Chris B. Pale as his sassy lackey Nico were standouts. ... full review

"The High Captain" is a true satire. I feel like American Culture has been bereft of good satire- mostly because it is often misinterpreted as cutting too close to the bone. This play really reveals, both allegorically and literally, the kind of drug-induced Dante's Inferno that has become American contemporary politics. It'll disturb you; make you squirm at times in your seat; but it will amuse you; entertain you; and, at the very least, vindicate you. Jude Evans gives a tour de force performance as the reprehensible political candidate Thon. He feels eerily similar to a leader we know all too well. Heather Lynn also gives a memorable performance as his political opposition, with an inner demon masquerading as a serious digestive disorder (... full review
