What I liked

I really enjoyed the story Caprita developed. It felt like a modern take on the “It’s a Wonderful Life” with Caprita delivering an earnest and hearfelt performance of a man who’s lost his path in life and is tired of fighting. Josh Wingate delivers a performance as the Angel that was just a treat to observe – grounding a character that could otherwise be aloof, Wingate deftly balances humor and high stakes desire with ease.

What I didn't like

I felt like I could have watched this play for another half hour, and in that time perhaps have learned of the “why” that has brought Jake to this moment of finally giving up on his life. But really, I enjoyed this show so much.

My overall impression

JAKE & THE ANGEL is a wonderful exploration of faith, life, guilt, and forgiveness. Caprita’s script presents two well-developed characters (portrayed effortlessly by Caprita and Wingate) and pins these opposing forces on a beach and what happens is a hilarious and endearing 30 minutes. Fantastic direction by Matt Duggan. Beautifully done to all involved!
